How can you Influence Others? Full Video (01:55) Language: English

(upbeat music) - Organizations are increasingly working collaboratively, so you need to be able to persuade others to see your point of view, to agree with your opinion.

So, how can you develop the ability to influence others?

Well, here's three ideas.

(upbeat music) If you want to sell your idea, you have to promote your credentials.

What qualifications or experience do you have that will make others want to listen to you?

You need to tell them, but do it briefly.

(upbeat music) Your communication skills are critical.

If it's a face-to-face situation, body language is more important than what you say.

So hold your body upright, and have good posture.

People are more influenced by you if you smile, so don't look glum.

Using hand gestures like I do, when you talk, is really important.

So use your hands to reinforce your points.

Now if it's voice only, like a conference call, make sure you have a confident tone, and speak clearly.

And when communicating in writing, make sure you have a maximum of three to five key points, no more.

(upbeat music) Finally, anticipate objections to your proposal or idea, because they'll be some.

And have prepared answers ready to overcome them.

But focus on the benefits of your idea.

Being persuasive is a skill that you can learn and develop.
