With his full-toned tenor saxophone, Ben Webster delivered a vibrant set of traditional ballads as well as the upbeat, swinging tune “Stompy Jones” from the Duke Ellington songbook accompanied by an orchestrated string and brass section. The live set was filmed in 1968 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Webster put on display his unmistakable and inimitable saxophone majesty with performances of “Danny Boy,” “Greensleeves,” and “Come Sunday” by Duke (whose orchestra he had once been a member of), as well as Cole Porter’s “You Be So Nice to Come Home To” with his band comprising pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen and drummer Albert Tootie Heath.

Musicians have the third most stressful profession worldwide topped only by air traffic controllers and emergency room doctors. Their working hours are antisocial, their lives lonesome. And work demands from them constant negotiating with something some of them need in order to perform and others have to fight in order to perform. Interviewing performing artists, this film examines the challenge of being a musician and the struggles to overcome stage fright and the difficulties of their lifestyle.

Discover Dvorak's 'New World' - Movement 1

Movement I - Adagio. Allegro molto, first examines Dvorák’s mysterious introduction and proceeds to the main body of the movement where we find a number of his beautiful melodies, based on American folk music. Lastly, the powerful ‘coda’, or concluding section, is brought to light in a manner that allows its dramatic qualities to be fully experienced.

The final Movement IV - Allegro con fuoco, begins with a very short but ominous introduction, probed by Maestro Maull for Dvorák’s use of the elements of music. Two new melodies, one heroic and the other nostalgic, are introduced. Dvorák later recalls musical themes from all the previous movements, weaving them into a commanding synthesis of everything that has come before. We might expect another intense coda or extra ending for this final movement, and Dvorák provides it, but not without some effective surprises!
